About
Through my short films, installation, and photography, I create a dreamlike world. Each piece inhabits a space that is familiar but slightly inconsistent with reality. The tension that this process creates is integral to the viewer's reaction. Each person's unique life experiences contribute greatly to their interpretation of art, but it's the similarities that I strive to exploit. My use of ephemeral narratives evokes a range of emotions in the viewer; from deja vu, to empathy, to nostalgia.
My obsession with abandoned objects and places brought me to my latest body of work, entitled Reverberations. It is an exploration of material culture, privacy, and ownership. After having found a teen girl's journal in the desert with entries from the early 1990's, I embarked upon a hunt for its owner. After much research of public records, I managed to find the writer, now in her 30's. My documentation of this journey and interactions with the journal's owner have become what the piece is today; a constantly evolving process. Soon, I will be meeting her in person and entering a new phase of the project. Ultimately, this piece is a testament to the value of the discarded and forgotten.
